Curtin University’s Orientation Week 2025: New Students Celebrate as They Begin Their Academic Journey

Thousands of students from Western Australia and various international locations are beginning their higher education journeys at Curtin University’s campuses in Perth and Kalgoorlie as Orientation Week 2025 commences. Scheduled from February 17 to 21, the event aims to provide new students with a thorough introduction to university life.

Importance of Orientation Week

Orientation Week serves as an important precursor to Semester One, featuring a range of information sessions, workshops, and events designed to assist new students in their transition. It aims to foster connections among peers and provide insights into the resources and opportunities available at Curtin University.

University Leadership’s Vision

Vice-Chancellor Professor Harlene Hayne emphasized that 2025 is anticipated to be a significant year for the university, characterized by the introduction of new programs, high student demand, and key milestones. Professor Hayne highlighted the university’s commitment to supporting students throughout their academic journeys.

New Student Enrollment

The university has reported that it expects to welcome over 6,500 new undergraduate students across its Western Australian campuses this year, with notable interest in programs such as the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Commerce, and Bachelor of Nursing.

Program Relaunch

In addition, Curtin University plans to relaunch its Bachelor of Science (Paramedicine) program in 2025. This program will allow students to gain practical training through real-world experiences, marking the first intake since 2022. The revised course will also be accessible to a wider range of applicants, eliminating prior employment co-requisites.

Enhanced Learning Facilities

Students at Curtin will have access to advanced facilities, including a simulation ambulance to enhance their learning experience by preparing them for real-life emergency situations.

Expanding Student Support Programs

Celebrating Milestones

Significant milestones this year include the 50th anniversaries of both the School of Education and the School of Art and Design, which have been integral in educating future teachers and creative professionals. Additionally, the Speech Pathology program and the Curtin Stuttering Treatment Clinic are commemorating their respective 50th and 40th anniversaries of supporting individuals with communication challenges.

Opportunities for New Students

As the university celebrates these milestones, Orientation Week provides new students with essential opportunities to begin their academic paths, cultivate new relationships, and engage with Curtin’s legacy of educational excellence.

Activities During Orientation Week

In addition to academic sessions, Orientation Week includes various activities designed to help students acclimate and connect with one another, featuring options such as arts and crafts, yoga, and social events. Classes for Semester One are scheduled to begin on Monday, February 26.
