IIT Delhi’s STEM Mentorship Program for High School Girls Concludes Successful Third Batch

IIT Delhi has completed the third batch of its STEM Mentorship Program aimed at high school girls, which seeks to improve female representation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. The program is open to students in Classes 9 to 11 from various government-aided and private schools in the Delhi-NCR region.

Concluding Event

Various dignitaries, including Professor Rangan Banerjee, the Director of IIT Delhi, attended the concluding event, along with alumni and sponsors such as Mr. Akshay Chhabra from American Express. The participation of program alumnae contributed to the event’s reflective atmosphere.

Remarks by the Director

Professor Banerjee highlighted the institute’s dedication to enhancing female enrollment in STEM disciplines during his remarks. Certificates were awarded to participants by Professor Narayanan D. Kurur, Dean of Academics at IIT Delhi, acknowledging their successful completion of the program.

Program Structure

The Winter phase of the program spanned five days and included lectures delivered by faculty and alumnae covering diverse topics, from women’s leadership in STEM to the implications of artificial intelligence in neuroscience and algorithm design. Participants also took part in a do-it-yourself workshop designed to stimulate innovation.

Sci-Tech Spins Lecture Series

In addition to the lectures, students engaged in the Sci-Tech Spins lecture series, which offered insights from Ms. Aisha Bowe, founder of STEMBoard and former NASA aerospace engineer. Her session was particularly impactful, generating interest among attendees in space science and technology.

Program Growth

Launched in 2021 with a cohort of ten students, the program has grown significantly, with the latest batch comprising 80 participants. The initiative is organized by Professors Divya Nayar and Rohit Vaish, who continue to lead its expansion alongside other academic leaders at the institute.

Participant Feedback

Participant feedback indicated the program’s constructive influence, with many noting its role in building friendships, creating memorable experiences, and encouraging interest in STEM careers.
