UNAIR Students from the Faculty of Science and Technology Win Creativepreneur Competition with Innovative E-Waste Solution
Students from the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) achieved recognition at the 2024 Creativepreneur Competition, which took place at BIM University Bali on November 30, 2024. Participants Ridhwan Fadly Saputra and Memoreza Sabana developed a project focused on addressing the growing issue of electronic waste.
Competition Overview
The competition, themed ‘Empowering Youth for Business Revolution,’ featured a range of entrepreneurial initiatives. The winning proposal, named Fixer, is a digital platform designed to facilitate electronic repairs and manage electronic waste effectively.
Project Motivation
According to statements made by Saputra, the project was motivated by the rising production levels of electronic waste. The Fixer platform includes an app-based service that enables users to arrange repairs, with technicians providing on-site services at customers’ locations.
Environmental Impact
Saputra also pointed out the environmental implications of increasing e-waste generation, which, as indicated by the Global E-Waste Monitor 2024, is anticipated to reach 82 million tons by 2030. This escalating issue not only causes environmental harm but also presents significant health risks.
Demand for Repair Services
The team recognized a demand for accessible repair services, which led to the development of a digital solution that allows technicians to visit customers directly. In reflecting on their experience, Saputra highlighted the importance of perseverance and capitalizing on opportunities to achieve their objectives.
Youth-Driven Innovation
This accomplishment illustrates the potential for youth-driven innovation to address critical issues such as electronic waste while also emphasizing the lessons gained through participation in the competition.
