Dance World Concert at Curtin Malaysia: A Celebration of Global Dance Culture

Miri, Sarawak – The Auditorium at Curtin University Malaysia hosted the Dance World Concert on November 19, 2024, an event aimed at celebrating cultural diversity through dance. This three-hour concert, themed ‘Dance World,’ presented an array of both modern and traditional dance forms, representing various cultures.

Variety of Dance Performances

Performances at the concert included a variety of styles, such as Bollywood dance from India, the energetic rhythms of American hip-hop, and the traditional Ngajat dance of Sarawak. Each performance provided insights into the respective cultures, complemented by vibrant costumes and intricate choreography.

Notable performances included ballet routines from Miri’s Unity Dance Academy and a captivating Ngajat presentation by students from SM Sains, both of which garnered positive responses from the audience. The Curtin Diabolo Club and Curtin Music Club also contributed to the concert, showcasing collaborative efforts among the performers.

Organizational Leadership

The event was organized by the Curtin Arts and Dance Club (CADC), with leadership from chairperson Connie Chung Suan Sui, vice-chairperson Kristy Chin Jing Ting, CADC president Jesslyn Lim Ker Sin, and vice-president Tan Jia Wen. In total, 44 dancers participated, along with various support collaborators.
