Swinburne Sarawak’s STEM Outreach Program 2025 Engages Over 220 Students in Science and Technology Initiatives

Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus has introduced its Flagship STEM Outreach Program for 2025, aimed at engaging over 220 students from 13 secondary schools in Sarawak through a variety of workshops and competitions focused on science and technology. The program was officially launched on July 19, 2025, by Yang Berhormat Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, the Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development for Sarawak.

Key events within the initiative include the Swinburne Big Day Out and the Future ICT Coders Workshop and Competition. Dato Sri Roland Sagah acknowledged the university and its partners for their alignment with the Sarawak government’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which seeks to improve educational prospects in the region. He also highlighted the ministry’s initiatives to promote STEM education, including the Free Tertiary Education Scheme and various STEM Catalyst Programs and competitions.

During his speech, he encouraged participating students to make the most of the program to develop practical skills in emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, and cybersecurity, emphasizing their potential role as future contributors to Sarawak’s growth.
Workshop Details
The Future ICT Coders Workshop is designed to improve students’ coding and problem-solving abilities through collaborative challenges facilitated by lecturers from Swinburne Sarawak. Concurrently, the Swinburne Big Day Out workshops will address environmental awareness, focusing on carbon capture technologies and their relevance in combating climate change.
