Enhancing Transmigration Areas: IPB University Collaborates with Mentrans for Development

On March 25, 2025, Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara, the Minister of Transmigration, conducted a visit to IPB University to discuss ongoing collaborative efforts. The meeting occurred in the Rector’s Meeting Room at the IPB Dramaga Campus, located in Bogor.
Previous Engagements
This visit followed a previous engagement where the Rector of IPB University had met with representatives from the Ministry of Transmigration. During the visit, Minister Iftitah toured key facilities at the university, including the Smart Greenhouse in Leuwi Kopo and the Agribusiness and Technology Park (ATP) in Cikarawang, Dramaga.
Significance of Transmigration
During his visit, Minister Iftitah underscored the significance of transmigration, stating that it extends beyond mere relocation. He presented a vision focused on regional development aimed at enhancing welfare and creating integrated economic zones in transmigration areas. He stated, “The focus is on creating transmigration areas that facilitate economic development and enhance prosperity.”
Kementrans Flagship Program
The Minister introduced the Kementrans flagship program, Transmigrasi Patriot, which encompasses initiatives for research and mapping of transmigration locations to identify growth potential. He also announced that the Ministry is offering scholarships to young individuals wishing to study at IPB University, covering programs from Applied Bachelor’s (D4) to Doctoral (S3). Scholarship recipients will be assigned to transmigration areas upon completion of their studies.
Dosen Pulang Kampung Program
Minister Iftitah acknowledged the Dosen Pulang Kampung program at IPB University, viewing it as a promising initiative that could align with the goals of the Transmigrasi Patriot program.
IPB University’s Support
IPB University’s Rector, Prof. Arif Satria, expressed his support for the Ministry’s initiatives, particularly in relation to the development of agricultural-based transmigration areas. He noted that the university’s facilities could serve as models for farmers involved in transmigration efforts, with the aim of producing high-quality agricultural products.
Strategic Discussions
In support of the Transmigrasi Patriot program, discussions between IPB University’s School of Graduate Studies and the Faculty of Economics and Management took place with the Directorate General of Economic Development and Community Empowerment in Transmigration Areas (PEMT) at Kementrans. The discussions focused on strategic programs designed to enhance human resources in these areas. Initiatives include scholarship provisions for Master’s and Doctoral students, as well as the deployment of the Patriot Expedition Team for practical research and community empowerment.
University’s Commitment
Prof. Yusli Wardiatno, Vice Dean for Academics, Student Affairs, and Alumni at the School of Graduate Studies, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to acting as a strategic partner in developing self-sustaining and productive transmigration areas.
Tripartite Collaboration
Furthermore, a model of tripartite collaboration among the Ministry, prominent universities such as IPB University, and local institutions was discussed, aimed at integrating hybrid learning with the Freedom of Learning – Independence Campus (MBKM) initiative and Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKN Tematik).
Implementation of Transmigrasi Patriot
The Transmigrasi Patriot program is planned for implementation in ten designated transmigration areas, including KT Barelang (Batam), KT Salor (Merauke), and KT Pulau Morotai, among others.
