PolyU Launches First Qian Weichang International Summit, Uniting Global Scholars in Science and Engineering

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) successfully concluded the inaugural Qian Weichang International Summit (QWIS) on 30–31 March 2026, reaffirming its commitment to interdisciplinary research and global collaboration. Organised with support from the K.C. Wong Education Foundation, the summit honoured Qian Weichang and focused on advancing science and engineering innovation.

The event brought together leading scholars from institutions including Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Imperial College London, and Tsinghua University. Discussions covered key areas such as mechanics, energy, materials science, and biomedical engineering, encouraging cross-disciplinary collaboration.

A major highlight was the Qian Weichang Young Scientist Awards, recognising outstanding early-career researchers for their contributions to science and engineering. With over 70 parallel sessions, the summit provided a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as a global education and innovation hub.
