Professor Lee Byoung Kuk’s Research Team Wins 1st Best Paper Award at ICEMS 2025 – Sungkyunkwan University

A research team led by Professor Lee Byoung Kuk from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University received the 1st Best Paper Award at the International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems (ICEMS 2025). The conference was held from November 16 to 19, 2025, at Paradise Hotel Busan. The focus of the award-winning research was on a battery management system (BMS) for electric vehicles and unmanned underwater vehicles.
Award-Winning Paper
The recognition was specifically awarded to a paper authored by doctoral student Jeyeong Lim, titled “Real-time State-of-Health Estimation Algorithm for Lithium-ion Battery Based on Coulomb Counting and Constant Voltage Charging Time Reset.” This achievement is considered a notable advancement in the research capabilities of the College of Computing and Informatics, reflecting contributions on both national and international levels.
Conference Highlights
ICEMS 2025, co-sponsored by the IEEE Industry Applications Society, featured 714 papers from 23 countries and attracted a total of 894 participants, highlighting the conference’s significance in the electrical machines and energy conversion sectors.
Ongoing Collaborations and Research Leadership
In addition to the first prize, the research team also secured another Best Paper Award, underscoring their ongoing collaboration with industry partners, including SK On, Hyundai Motor Company, and the Agency for Defense Development. Professor Lee Byoung Kuk has been recognized as an IEEE Fellow in 2024 and continues to lead research initiatives focused on electric vehicle chargers and BMS algorithms, supported by a team of approximately twenty integrated M.S. and Ph.D. students.
