Chula Institute of Asian Studies Seminar on Plural Society in Khlong Takhein: Cultural Weaving and Community Strength Development

On February 5, 2025, the Chula Institute of Asian Studies, in partnership with several organizations, including the Khlong Takhein Subdistrict Administrative Organization and Krirk University, held a seminar titled “Plural Society in Khlong Takhein: Weaving Cultures from Persia, Ayutthaya, and the Malay Peninsula into Guidelines for Community Strength Development.” This event occurred at the CU Social Innovation Center (CU SiHub) in Bangkok.

Opening Remarks

The seminar commenced with opening remarks from Associate Professor Dr. Pawika Sriratanaban, the Director of the Institute of Asian Studies. A keynote lecture was presented by Mr. Sukit Lohfor, Chief Executive of the Khlong Takhein Subdistrict Administrative Organization, who addressed the topic “The Importance of Khlong Takhein.”

Panel Discussion

Following the keynote, a panel discussion examined the pluralistic nature of society in Khlong Takhein, highlighting the integration of cultural elements from Persia, Ayutthaya, and the Malay Peninsula as a means to foster community development. Contributions to the discussion were made by Ajarn Faisal Boonrod, Director of the Islamic Sri Ayudhya Foundation School, and Dr. Bandit Aroman from the Faculty of Liberal Arts at Krirk University.

Aim of the Seminar

The seminar aimed to disseminate knowledge about the cultural heritage of the Khlong Takhein community while exploring the significance of contemporary cultural connections within the region. Additionally, it sought to promote collaboration between educational institutions and local communities, paving the way for future research and community development initiatives.
