During the AI for Education Kick-Off event, Prof. Yeni Herdiyani, chairperson of the Artificial Intelligence Study Program at IPB University, addressed the appropriate and safe use of ChatGPT. She emphasized that ChatGPT can be effectively employed for tasks that do not require exact or factual responses.
Prof. Yeni highlighted the importance of user expertise in verifying the accuracy of information generated by ChatGPT. She warned that users who are unable to confirm the validity of the AI’s responses may face risks in scenarios that demand accuracy.
Effective Prompt Creation Strategies
In addition to discussing safety considerations, Prof. Yeni provided several strategies for creating effective prompts when utilizing ChatGPT. Key guidelines included establishing a clear context to outline the background of the issue and articulating the main task by including essential questions that break the problem into manageable parts.
Additionally, she recommended narrowing the scope of discussion to maintain relevance, clearly stating primary objectives to guide the interaction, and defining the expected format of responses to align with user needs.
AI for Education Kick-Off Event
The AI for Education Kick-Off, organized by the Directorate of Learning Transformation and Educational Technology (DTPTP) at IPB University, aimed to engage both faculty members and students in discussions about the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in education.
At the event, Prof. Deni Noviana, Vice Rector for Education and Student Affairs, outlined the initiative’s purpose of enhancing awareness among educators and students regarding AI applications within educational settings. He also discussed the positive impacts of Generative AI (GenAI) and proposed methods to address potential challenges while providing examples of ethical and responsible usage in the academic context of IPB University.
Commitment to AI in Higher Education
Rector of IPB University, Prof. Arif Satria, affirmed the institution’s commitment to incorporating AI into its operational framework. He mentioned the establishment of a task force responsible for developing guidelines for AI usage in higher education pursuits. Prof. Arif stressed the need for curriculum adaptations to prepare students for collaborative work with AI while nurturing essential human skills such as critical thinking and creative problem-solving.

In her presentation, Prof. Yulin Lestari, Director of DTPTP, discussed “AI for Learning in Higher Education,” stating that Generative AI should enhance learning experiences. She noted that from a student perspective, GenAI holds significant value in comprehending complex subjects, generating writing ideas, creating educational materials, and sourcing references.
This initiative represents IPB University’s strategic commitment to embracing artificial intelligence and its potential to advance educational methodologies.
