UNP’s “Education in Motion” Program Enhances Learning at Dr. Ricardo Gacula Memorial National High School in Candon City

The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) recently initiated an extension activity at Dr. Ricardo Gacula Memorial National High School in Candon City on November 4, 2025. Named “Education in Motion: UNP’s Extension Program and Learning Support to DRGMNHS,” the program aimed to improve educational opportunities for both students and teachers.
Participants and Objectives
Participants included university experts, faculty, and support staff who shared their knowledge to support the academic and personal growth of attendees. This effort aligns with UNP’s mission to extend its resources to educational institutions in the region.
Partnership Acknowledgement
Dr. Annalyn Galanto, the Principal of Dr. Ricardo Gacula Memorial National High School, acknowledged the partnership, noting that the initiative fosters meaningful learning experiences that contribute to the holistic development of students.
Lecture on Journalism
The event featured a lecture on Journalism presented by Mr. Johnny Allagadan Jr. from the University Information Office. His discussion focused on ethical reporting and the role of student journalism in promoting transparency and civic engagement.
Literacy Activities
Additionally, members of the University Library Services conducted literacy activities designed to enhance reading appreciation and comprehension skills. Their sessions highlighted the importance of reading and information literacy in empowering students to become independent learners.
Guidance Counseling Sessions
Guidance counseling sessions were conducted by Dr. Marifel Acena, Dr. Christian Gea Florentino, and Ms. Rowena Mamuad, emphasizing self-awareness, emotional resilience, and the cultivation of positive relationships among students.
Science Education Enhancement
To strengthen science education, a team including Ms. Jenny Grace Almazan, Ms. Roselyn Rabanzo, Mr. Rhommel Aninag, Mr. Jonnel Torres, Mr. Adonis Roman Pablico, and Mr. Glicerio Savella provided hands-on demonstrations of laboratory tools and equipment. These activities aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of laboratory practices.
Training on Science Investigatory Projects
Furthermore, a training session on Science Investigatory Projects was led by Dr. Charo Rojas, Dr. Jill Ann Paranada, and Mr. Jeem Carlo Pula, equipping students with the skills necessary to present their research effectively, thereby preparing them for competitions and further studies.

The Office of the Vice President for Research and Extension organized the event, which underscored UNP’s commitment to delivering community-centered education.
